Rain Hampton

Some locals claim a connection between odd years (ie. 2009, 2011) and weekend rainfall rates.  If this is wishful thinking to wash away tourists, then this weekend proved the superstition false.  Friday night was a typical pre-July 4th evening: Jitneys and Luxury Liners hurdled down Montauk Highway, while Trata, Savannas and Nobu all met expectations.  The one Friday night laggard of note was Dune/Axe Lounge.  Inside sources confirmed to spye hampton that only 33 warm bodies entered the venue!  Said sources opined that the promoters have transplanted their Friday night party to Madame Tong's.  How will Dune respond?

Saturday was met with the same foul weather.  Nevertheless, the well-heeled clientele of Southampton and East Hampton piled into their Range Rovers (umbrellas in hand) for a night on the town.  A flash-flooding rainstorm tore into Wainscott at midnight, dousing the growing line of glitterati outside SL East.  Makeup smeared, white pants turned see-through and skin-tight jeans became grafting procedures.

11:30pm and the lines at South Pointe were stretched out to the street, at 125 Tuckahoe Lane.  21 year-olds, donning $200 designer dress shirts, carted from the Roosevelt Field Mall, were on the premises.  Oddly enough, this appeared to be the exact same crowd who gathered 24-hours earlier, on Friday evening.  Isn't Friday the typical kid's night at this classic Hamptons address, which once housed Tavern?  Shouldn't this crew have been spending Saturday night recovering at their parent's house in Five Towns or Howard Beach?

Despite their lack of a sign (intentional?), Nobu at The Capri delivered for a second straight weekend.  Rain fell on the just and unjust alike, as Donny Deutsch dined in the packed room.  What will Nobu bring to the once vacant location at 281 Montauk Highway, when they are able to leverage their spacious outdoor bar area?  If local folklore proves accurate, it may be several more weekends before the skies clear for the decked-out, daybed clad courtyard to be open to the "public."

Let's all use this Sunday to dry out--literally and figuratively, that is.  There is plenty of steam remaining in the locomotives of the LIRR Cannonballs to fire you back to the East End, for the second-half of June...before the real party begins.  Safe travels, everyone!
